When I first saw this book up for review, I was excited! I recently delved into the world of Bible journaling, but I wasn’t happy with the options available (after all, a Bible journaling is about visual expression of the Word–you can’t have an ugly, uninspiring cover!) Less expensive options typically featured a simple, plain hardcover, while more expensive options were leather. None were very inspiring to the younger generation. This book, however, is perfect—the beautiful turquoise makes a statement without being too outrageous. (The cover does not have any text–the pink cardboard shown is merely part of the seller’s packaging.)
The NIV Holy Bible for Girls is gorgeous and practical. The hardcover, whimsical design is paired with large, lined margins for writing, doodling, or journaling. The pages are thick and the font is a decent size, but keep in mind that the pages will still show certain types of ink. An elastic band will keep this Bible closed (no matter what additions you might make), and the attached silk ribbon will help you you’re your place! Written in the New International Version (NIV) translation, studying scripture and reflecting on its daily applications has never been more fun!
Personally, I have plans to use this bible as a future gift for my daughter—I hope to highlight important scriptures and write personal insight/advice in the margins to aid in personal and spiritual growth. If she were older, I might use it as a mother/daughter venture into Bible journaling, where we both could read and reflect on scripture together. If I didn’t already have my own journaling Bible, I would definitely consider keeping this lovely Bible for my own personal use.
