Sometimes, you just have to let your light illuminate you from the inside out rather than try to be serve as a spotlight onto others. When you are left in the dark trying to help those around you, your own light ultimately runs low, making you ineffective, tired, and often burnt out. This prayer journal is the perfect resource to slow down and reflect through prayer, meditation, and creativity.

Why I Chose It: “Mommy’s Quiet, Alone Time” is a rare commodity in the Emokpae household. Though I know much of this lifestyle is self-inflicted, I also realize that when raising small children, the days might seem long but the years are so, so short. As long as I get a little time to myself each day, I don’t get too overwhelmed or burnt out. Because this time is so short (often less than 60 minutes, and more often than not, still broken in to chunks) I greatly appreciate when my interests can be combined. Gratitude prayer journal provides an experience that draws readers into a deeper faith by combining adult coloring pages (increasing focus and relaxation) with scriptural reading and prayer. Like my favorite coffee mug says, “all I need is a little coffee and a whole lot of Jesus.” This prayer journal pairs nicely with coffee and helps me find more Jesus in my every day life.
Gratitude: A Prayer and Praise Coloring Journal invites you to bring creative journaling and the calming act of coloring into your quiet time with God. This beautifully designed interactive prayer book from Tyndale’s Living Expressions collection helps guide your thoughts as you pray about concerns such as health, overcoming stress, personal relationships, and more. Gratitude gives you a way to celebrate and give thanks to God for the many blessings he provides. Filled with over 100 designs to color, plenty of space for journaling and sketching, and 40 needs-based prayers, Gratitude helps you express your devotion to God with your whole heart!
There are many great features that makes this prayer journal stand out to me. The best aspect is that it is interactive in a way that invites you to truly participate in activities that will strengthen a relationship with the Lord. If you are like me, there will be days when you come up short finding the words to use in prayer. This journal features 100 prayers to draw from, with the ability to use them as they are or alter them to fit your needs and circumstances at a particular time. Start at the beginning and work your way through, or pick a random page each day. This journal allows you to work through at your leisure.
The coloring patterns vary in size, style, and intensity, allowing an experience that is enjoyable without being overwhelming. Many coloring books for adults are simply too intricate for my tastes. I don’t have that kind of time, nor the desire to be quite that focused on detail while I relax. (My brain needs a BREAK, for real!) Within each coloring page is blank space for you to fill with your own thoughts, reflections, or prayers.
The book itself is compact without being miniscule, and it is well constructed so you don’t have to worry about tearing the cover or pages falling out. It can stand up to the daily wear and tear that a good prayer journal requires. One thing to note is that similar to journaling bibles, certain markers or pens may bleed through. The pages are a little thicker than a journaling bible, but white pages tend to show through a bit. If that bothers you, be sure to use coloring tools that will not bleed, such as Crayola Twist-able Crayons or PIGMA markers. I personally use Twist-ables and watercolor pencils, but this journal has so many opportunities to let your unique voice shine through. Find what works best for your style!
This journal has no limits in terms of audience age. It isn’t “hip,” nor is it antiquated. It is filled with timeless prayers and design to reach women of all ages, races, and needs. This is definitely one that will be put on my gift-giving list this Christmas!
